As part of this buildup, we are hosting a Precursor Event at Millview Primary in Durban to bring the spirit of the day directly to learners and educators.
1. Breathwork & Focus Simple breathing techniques to calm the mind before exams and reduce classroom stress.
2. Posture & Movement Gentle stretches and postures that improve posture, energy, and concentration during long school days.
3. Mindfulness & Respect Short mindfulness practices that build self-awareness, emotional regulation, and respect for others.
4. Values of Unity Sessions link yoga principles to ubuntu showing learners how individual wellness contributes to a stronger school community. Millview Primary Precursor Event This school event serves as a practical introduction to the 12th International Day of Yoga. Learners will participate in guided practice, discuss the theme “Yoga for Wellness, Wisdom and Global Peace,” and experience how small daily practices support both personal well-being and collective unity. It’s designed to:
Give students a firsthand experience of yoga in a safe, inclusive setting Prepare them to participate meaningfully in the main event on 21 June Strengthen the school’s culture of respect, focus, and togetherness Why it matters Students today face pressure from academics, social dynamics, and fast-paced digital life. Regular practice helps with better focus, reduced anxiety, greater self-confidence, and a stronger sense of belonging across cultural and language differences.
