RICHARDS BAY, KWA ZULU-NATAL The Sivananda World Peace Foundation, under the leadership of Founder Prince Ishwar Ramlutchman Mabheka Zulu, successfully hosted a Precursor Event to the 12th International Day of Yoga at Pelican Island, Richards Bay on Saturday the 2nd of May 2026.
The event brought together students from across the region under the theme Yoga for Students — Yoga, Unity in Diversity, reinforcing yoga’s role as a unifying force that transcends language, culture, religion, and background.
The Key Highlights of the programme included:
a) . Student-Centered Yoga Session : Guided sessions focused on breathwork, mindfulness, and simple asanas designed for young people to manage stress, improve focus, and build emotional resilience ahead of examinations.
b). Unity in Diversity : Learners from different cultural and religious backgrounds practiced side by side, embodying the spirit of ubuntu... “I am because we are.”
c). Peace and Social Cohesion : The program emphasized yoga not only as physical discipline but as a tool for moral regeneration, mutual respect, and community harmony in KwaZulu-Natal. “I have always respected people. Being humble sometimes makes people underestimate your power. At the end, we bow and say God is in control. Yoga teaches us that strength lies in unity, and peace begins within each student.” said Prince Ishwar.
Commitment to society:
The Sivananda World Peace Foundation reaffirms its commitment to using yoga as a platform for:
1. Promoting peace among youth in diverse communities
2. Fostering harmony through shared practice and dialogue.
3. Building togetherness as we approach the 12th International Day of Yoga on 21 June 2026
Pelican Island provided a serene and symbolic setting . It is a reminder that even in the midst of movement and activity, one can find stillness, balance, and connection. The Foundation extends gratitude to all students, educators, community leaders, and partners who made this precursor event possible. This is one step toward a larger celebration of yoga as a bridge for social cohesion in KZN.
